To paint is a passion
"To create and paint is a passion. The strongest and invincible passion, which, even when all desires have died out, must not pass away. You may renounce everything, resign yourself to everything, but never in art." The words of Jan Zrzavý resonate even after many years. Not only in the paintings of the Czech painter, but also in the paintings and thinking of his spiritual followers. This includes Martin, for whom painting is a passion. Everyday, persistent, burning. But also an intimate confession with a silent confession. And when doubts come, no resignation is to be seen. On the contrary, its feminine faces reflect a gallery of our loftiest ideas and most secret desires. They are both near and far, blurred and mysteriously emerging from the monochrome mist. They have many tastes and smells. There are Madame de Pompadour and the White Lady of Levoča."
Martin often remarks that he is happy to be able to do what he also enjoys. But he also stresses that he could not have done it without the people he has met who have pushed him in his life and work. Whether it was his mother Božka, the publisher Gabika, the gallerist Carmen, the poet Kamil, his brother Andrej - and, of course, his three ladies at home - Daniela, Dorotka and Barborka, whom he tenderly calls "the walking emotions". These are the important components that give meaning to his talent, and to his paintings, in turn, the ability to bring to life the words spoken by the fox in The Little Prince: "It is only with the heart that one can see clearly. What is essential is invisible to the eye."
So how is it with Martin? It's nothing complicated. He sees with his heart, thinks with his passion and lives or meets the people whose presence brings the right wind to his sails. What more could you ask for? Perhaps just for it to keep going...

I'm very glad that my illustrations accompany Kamil Peteraj's beautiful and very true poems in the Luxusná knižnica edition.
I do believe that love is one of the most beautiful emotions. It makes the beings that we are be sentient and compassionate. And I believe that this connection will contribute to making our world a more beautiful place.
The monograph is part of the collection of the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris.
A limited edition of the book Máj, available in the Czech Republic.
It is part of the Royal Collection at Buckingham Palace in London.
